Natural Resources and Envinromental Conservation
What the program is
The Natural Resources & Environmental Conservation Program promotes sustainable land use, ecosystem restoration, and environmental stewardship at community level.
The program integrates tree planting, conservation agriculture, and awareness-raising to address deforestation, soil erosion, and loss of indigenous plant species.
Through community-managed nurseries, school partnerships, and farmer engagement, the program restores degraded landscapes while supporting sustainable farming systems.
Why it matters
Rapid deforestation, soil erosion, and loss of indigenous plant species are major threats to livelihoods and food production in Nkasi District. Unsustainable tree cutting has accelerated soil fertility loss and reduced resilience to climate extremes.
- Restores tree cover and protects soils
- Conserves indigenous plant species adapted to local climate conditions
- Strengthens long-term agricultural productivity
- Builds environmental responsibility among farmers and school communities
By linking conservation directly with livelihoods, the program ensures environmental protection is practical, community-owned, and sustainable.
Who it serves
- Farming households in project villages
- Primary school students and teachers
- Village environmental committees
- Wider community members benefiting from restored ecosystems
We work with communities — not for them
We partner with communities, local institutions, and stakeholders to deliver measurable impact and sustainable change that strengthens livelihoods and protects the environment.
